Because we are HARDCORE!

After the joyofJOYS that was MDS$W, we HAD to get to Rhinebeck!

We were gonna do ANYTHING to get there!

ok, well, *I* was gonna do anything to get there, and my favorite knitty ladies were all ABOUT supportin’ the cause!

Because of the nature of my job, there was no way I could get Friday night off to go to Rhinebeck. The only way I was gonna get there and not miss half of the festival was if I left RIGHT AFTER WORK.

For me, that meant 2am.

Chelsea, Sarah and I literally DROVE. ALL. NIGHT. to get there.

How much do my girls ROCK for coming with me?

Because I’m a DUMBASS and a DIPSHIT, I actually ended up having to run home after work to grab some stuff I’d forgotten. THEREFORE, we didn’t get on the road until 3:30!!!! (that is, after I got my stuff, picked up Chels at her house and then drove out to get Sarah.)

Needless to say, by the time we got CLOSE to Rhinbeck, there were some casualties:

She held out as long as she could though…

When we finally DID get there though, it was sunny and sparkly and autumny and loverly!!! (aaactually, it was muddy and soggy and rainy and kiiinda gross, but an hour later it was sunny and hot and FABULOUS!)

FAMILY FUN!

At this point, I was really super excited and all giddy inside — which makes me wanna sorta fess up to som’n and be a downer for a sec…

See, while everyone is going on about the most fabulous time EVER they had at Rhinebeck, I kinda left a bit sad about the whole thing. I don’t know what it is… I’ve just been in a funk about it! I guess maybe I hyped it up in my head a little too much. Nothing really ever lives up to THAT kind of expectation, you know? I just wanted to see EVERYBODY and do EVERYTHING and have MAD MAD CRAZY FUN, and there just isn’t time or opportunity for ALL that.

That said though, much fun was still had!!!

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • TEAM GEORGIA, of course!

Anne Marie and Carrie are the coooolest!
  • Meeting the real, life-sized frecklegirl, her sweetie-husband Casey, and big lug Jen!!

    YAY!
  • Cashing in all the coins I had in my trunk at a stop n’ shop Coinstar machine and getting $65 back!!!! WOOO! FREE YARN!
  • LAMB KEBABS! soooo tasty. sooo. tasty.
  • Seeing the look on Chelsea’s face when she bought her spinning wheel:

    WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
  • Sing-alongs and rest-stops!

LOWLIGHTS:

  • Missing the peoples that were GONNA come, but sadly couldn’t make it (like Jenny and Silvia and Stephanie)
  • Not really getting to hang out with Cara or Carolyn :( (or Claudia or Norma)
  • That we never got to go see the Queen Cover Band playing in Poughkeepsie. It would have been SOO AWESOMELY BAD!
  • Sleep deprivation made me waaay less fun, I think

UNANSWERED QUESTIONS:

  • HOW IN THE HELL DID I END UP WITH A DROP SPINDLE?

MOST AWESOME PART:

  • Getting Serious QT with the Girls. Here we are trying to look all sad it’s over:

I look like a thug. this is SO NOT CUTE.

TAKE 2: I totally cracked up.

    Third time’s a charm!
(uh, except…doesn’t Chelsea look like she’s TOTALLY up to no good?)

I also got to meet Ann (SUCH a riot!), and Christina and the other Anne and a whole bunch of other cool peeps and I got to hang with Paula AND I got to buy a whole bunch of yarn and fluff and sheepy paraphenalia! WOO!

Hopefully, this week I’ll put up a proper gallery of all our adventures, but in the meantime, I will leave you with a picture of alpaca yarny goodness that Sarah took home:

(this pic is for you, Holly)

You guys are HARDCORE! The love was there honey, even if it was brief! We had a quickie!

Loved seeing you – and I will again soon!

  2. Johanna Says:

My husband was really hoping that I wouldn’t be sad about the whole thing like you are. He was worried that I hyped it up too much also. I know for a fact that you had fun though, and it was nice to meet you, ever so briefly from across the Marriot lobby! I hope you caught up on a bit of sleep before Monday morning!

  3. Kate Says:

You are certainly hardcore, driving at 3:30am. Wish I could have been but there is always MDS$W

  4. biglug Says:

Hey Girlie, It was fun meeting you! And you were sleep deprived missy! So I’m amazed by team Maryland’s stamina at staying up and knitting til like 2AM! I hope we run into each other again. :)

  5. Carrie Says:

it was really fun, even if our time together was fleeting. We shall meet again….

  6. Norma Says:

It was fabulous as always to see you, even for only quick minutes here and there. Highlight: Your Pink Wellies. There is no way on God’s Green Earth that you could look like a thug. You’re the most gorgeous thing ever! Sorry about the sleep deprivation. But you guys all rock hard!

  7. Rossana Says:

i can’t believe you didn’t fall asleep for two days straight when you got home! it was so great to meet you (and Team Maryland!) and I had such a blast with everyone. I’m still exhausted, though!

  9. shelsea corneliabel Says:

O.M.G. why does my “excited” look so much like “insane”??

Too much of the many funs. BUT: I am still sleepy. [yawn]

  10. Vicki Says:

If I were her I’d totally kick your butt for posting that picture. But I guess you’re close like that haha. I know how the expectations thing goes, but looks like you still had an amazing time. Just hanging out with all those fun knitters would be great enough. So is there spinning in your future?

  11. paula Says:

what a fun weekend! woo team MD! yay for spindles! will there be meetup spindling? I found a city paper knitter who wants to learn too… it’s a disease…

  12. Silvia Says:

Oh lordie! I don’t know how long that drive would be, but I don’t know if I’d have made it either. Who’s that snoring redhead on the freeway…It looked like fun and I’m definitely going to MD–even if I have to quit my job to get there.

  13. Anne Marie Says:

Dear Lamb Chop (or eater thereof).
    Ew. Lamb kabaobs. Gross.
    Team Vibegirl. I love.
    Drop spindle. Chelsea’s fault.
    I miss you already.

  14. Sarah Says:

    Hardcore! WOOO! WOOOO!!! WOOOOO!!!!
OK, I kinda need to calm down now – back at work and all (boo). But it was much fun… once we got past the sleep deprivation and all.

    How many days until Maryland?

  15. frecklegirl Says:

Oh poor Lara- all that missed sleep! Sorry that you feel a little let down- I know I do not deal well with not much sleep. You did seem a bit tired, and who can blame ya?!

It was so nice to meet you… hopefully next time we will get some more time to chat.

  16. secret guy Says:

    You are so beautiful Lara!

  17. Stacey Says:

Queen cover band?! Awesome. Too bad you couldn’t go see them.

I know, I know. All that talk about all the fun at Rhinebeck and I comment about Queen?! What can I say…I’m too tired to make yet another “looks like you had fun!” kind of comment…

  18. Claudia Says:

There are always more fiber festivals to spread out all the wanting. We’ll catch up at the next one.
